Big Sky is located in southwest Montana, 45 minutes from Bozeman, 2 hours from Livingston and 15 miles from Yellowstone National Park. Tucked away at the base of Rocky Mountain range with dense forests and the Gallatin River it is accessible from highway 191 from Bozeman or Yellowstone.

Lone Peak Mountain is 11,166 feet in elevation – you can ride the Lone Peak Tram to see 300 panoramic degree views including 3 states and 2 National Parks.

Established in 1973, the population today is 2308 people and growing. Big Sky Resort is known for the ski and downhill mountain-bike trails. Big Sky ski area has 4 mountains to ski, 5,850 skiable acres with more than 300 runs and 34 chairlifts. The average snowfall is 400 inches of power People come to the newly built town for recreation(hiking, biking, rafting, skiing) or relaxation. Climate in Big Sky has extreme differences, with hot summers and severely cold winters.

Telephone Poles in this area are massive. Montana definately wins an award for the best telephone poles and good highways.

There are three areas to the Big Sky community: Canyon, Meadow, and Mountain.
The Canyon comprises the region off highway 191 between Bozeman and West Yellowstone, Several dude ranches (Cinnamon Lodge, 320 Guest Ranch, Elkhorn Ranch, and Nine Quarter Circle) operate in the Gallatin Canyon. Gallatin River, named after Albert Gallatin, the Secretary of the Treasury during the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The area is famous around the world for fly-fisherman as well as white water rafters and kayakers.

The Meadow area is a mix of commercial and residential areas including Town Center with business and condo development including an summer concert park, public golf course and many small rivers. It is the heart of the community.

The Mountain area is 6 miles from Town Center and has Mountain Village, two private clubs(Spanish Peaks Mountain Club and Moonlight Basin) and Madison Ski Base managed by Big Sky Resort.

LTD abbreviated for “Living the Dream” is a famous saying by locals. and you will see it on t-shirts and hats displayed around town.
