Ashland is at the foothills of the Siskiyou and Cascade ranges, 3 hours southeast of Bandon and 15 miles north of the California border. Many of Ashland’s historic buildings have been preserved and restored. The city has 48 individual structures and 2 historic districts (the Ashland Railroad Addition District and the Downtown District) on the National Register of Historic Places. Oregon Shakespeare Festival

Ashland’s Population is approximately 21,000 people and is the Home of Southern Oregon University and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. The festival annually produces eleven plays on three stages during a season that lasts from February to October. Approximately half of the plays produced each year are by William Shakespeare. These are important to Ashland’s economy, which also depends on restaurants, galleries, and retail stores that cater to playgoers and other visitors.
